how to remove dash on 73T
also my dash is cracked, its vinyl, can stretch new vinyl over the cracks
|
From what I understand, you have to remove the windshield to remove the dash

Correct on the windshield......I think it's in the 101 Projects book and maybe on the Pelican web site?

Once you get the dash out and are going to recover it you have to fill all the cracks. You have to prepare it just as if you were going to paint it. If you can feel the imperfections with you finger now, you will be able to feel and see the cracks once it is covered as well.

Call Tony at Autobahn Interiors. He is recovering them and they come out pretty nice. 858-453-2400.
You can also try Just Dashes (Van Nuys, CA) as another alternative, but the grain is different. But then again, so is Tony's. Either way, a man runnin' for his life wouldn't notice. The OEM replacements are a very poor fit and requires all the patience that you can muster up to get one installed and fitted properly. Even when the windshield out, the dash is still a bi_ch to remove, especially for a first timer. Wayne's book helps, but still it is a bi_ch. Ask me how I know? I installed a OEM dash in my 72 T a few months ago (first time). It's a slippery slope if you need a headliner and you already have the glass out... |
