Who is located in another state?
I don't do a lot of that, but am about to, with several hundreds of dollars worth of parts. It seems one person has to trust the other. Either I trust him and send him the money before he sends the parts, or vice versa. Any creative ways (that are not too complicated, like paypal, etc) that people have used? Or is it just a matter of trust? Thanks. |

I am in a similar situation. I was thinking UPS COD. I haven't checked it out yet though, so I don't know if you have to have an account with them to do COD's.

Nick,
I buy and sell a lot of m/c parts. I use PayPal for people I have never dealt with before. My regular customers just use money orders. Every now and then, you hear stories of crooks taking money under false promises, but I have yet to be stung in years of dealing. Hobbyist/enthusiasts tend to be an honest lot on the whole. ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website |

Maybe check and see if they will do C.O.D. if you are hesitant to give cash outright. I have personally dealt with many people and spent thousands of dollars on items via the internet and I have never had a problem. But thats not to say people dont get scammed. Good luck,

You can do C.O.D. with UPS at Mailboxes Etc. It is safe for both parties. Get some references about seller first if possible.

When parting out a wreck a few years ago, I used UPS and was paid by check each time. When I shipped the stuff, they mailed the checks. One check bounced and he finally paid up.
This approach was a nice balance between the extremes of not shipping until the money comes or waiting until the buyer gets the item with me having all the risk. One deal in particular, Steve Sowa bought the engine harness and I told him where he could find it in the garage since neither of us were home that day. He came by and picked up the harness and when I got home that evening the money, cash was in the envelope where he said he would put it. A nice way to do business. Ned Monaghan |
