Backup light switch

Didn't really want this to be my first post but here goes. Have noticed the backup lights getting intermittent over the last several weeks and decided to investigate the G50 mounted switch. Bullet connectors on wire harness seemed long in the tooth so I desoldered and resoldered. No joy. Took switch out and tested with ohmmeter using a small philips head to depress switch. Switch functioned properly.

Realized the pushrod from the transmission must be worn so thought about a fix. Considered a thinner washer so switch could seat closer to transmission but, having nothing handy, I decided to go without the washer. Coated the switch shoulder and a few threads with hi-temp silicon to prevent leakage. Reseated switch works again.

Certainly wouldn't be my first choice in fixes and wondering if anyone can suggest a better method. Haven't looking into what it'd require to replace the pushrod.

Thanks in advance.

when you take the switch off, does trany fluid comes out?

Had the car jacked up on the right side by 10 - 12 degrees and no trans oil came out.
