My brother is looking at buying this car. Its an 86 euro widebody. Does it not look like it has a dash cover on it. The owner says no?? thanks Doughttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1266502477.jpg

That is a leather covered dash. That line you are looking at is the seam where the leather is stitched together. You got that when you ordered the all leather interior option on the 911.

Good: the leather dash won't split and crack like the vinyl one.
But: it can shrink, especially around the center vent. Protect it if it's parked outside a lot. |
But even when it shrinks it is the mark of full leather...

Maybe a stupid question, but can you "unshrink" it?
The leather dash on the car I bought had done just that - shrunk around the center vent. |
Leather shrinks in the heat and because its stretched and under load it causes the edges of the dash to warp in to the centre. Eventually you get a badly distorted, wavy dash pad that costs $$$ to fix. Once its warped it will need to planed and/or filled to get the shape back before its recovered.
You have to match the dash leather to the door panel tops as these will also be leather in those cars that came with leather from the factory. So you either get a vinyl dash that cracks or a leather dash that warps. Vinyl is cheaper to fix. |
