I have swepco 210 in my 915. It's better in colder climates, I've been told.

Works great !

I've read a lot of posts on this synthetic rather than Swepco for G50 transmissions deal.

Having had my synthetic changed for Swepco, a few months back, I've made these observations for my 1989 Carrera 3.2 :

1) With the synthetic in the car when I bought it (changed three years ago) I had a fourth gear "bump" in the lever and fifth gear whine on the highway.

2) With Swepco just installed, I had INITIALLY a slowed shift into second when cold, and no difference in fourth and fifth gear. I was worried that "new Lamborghini gear oil" and "935 racing tranny fluid" wasn't going to be good enough for my old 911!

3) AFTER a month of use, the slowed cold shift into second was GONE, the fourth gear "bump" is GONE, and the fifth gear highway whine has virtually disappeared. Swepco has subjectively restored my G50.

My conclusions after reading all these threads on Pelican on synthetic transmission oil vs Swepco in G50 are this:

1) Almost always I see that people who put Swepco into their G50 and complained never gave the oil a chance to really work its way in -- and displace the existing film of oil that already existed on the gears and synchs. Remember, it's really worked in there. Nooks and crannies, right down to pores in the metal.

2) The idea that synthetic oil works magically better with the G50's gear metals than Swepco makes no metallurgical sense. Unless somebody can prove otherwise?

3) I always seem to read about some "miracle" test drive right after the transmission fluid change to synthetic and raves about what the synthetic has done in just a few miles. Sounds really subjective and unlikely. See point 1 -- these things take time to pan out.

Anyways, that's my experience. I wouldn't hesitate to use Swepco in a G50.

Screenwriter, the real issue is putting synthetic oil into a 901/915 as the synthetic is too efficient (too slippery) for the old school synchronisers (pre G50) to work with.

Interetestingly enough, I've heard the exact opposite, that Swepco 210 is better in hot climates, because it's thicker and holds up against the ambiant temparature better. Living here in Texas, where summer is routinely over a 100 degrees, I was told I should be using it over the 201. I am going to go do some more research...

I was told that a 915 runs cool in hot deserts so 201 is perfect on a street car.

210 is for hot track use when the tranny experiences a lot of work

There are differences in Mobil 1 or other synthetic purchased at the local flaps is not the recommended oil to use. The recommendation for synthetic comes from Porsche with the latest factory fill is Mobil Delvac 1. Wayne Dempsey's book also refers to using synthetics in the G-50 and later transmissions. Have read about good results with Redline and Amsoil too.

I have changed my the oil when I first got the car with standard Mobil 1 and again when I had the engine out for a rebuild. Then the beginning of last summer put in the Delvac Mobil 1 and the trans is quieter and smoother than before. I was fine with the way it was operating before. Gear oil changed three times in 20,000 miles.

I see no problem with the use of Swepco in the G-50 and is against what I have read over the past 7 years of being here. And most who have switched to synthetics have seen improvements:cool:.

G50? Nuttin' but the Mobil One Delvac, for me......proof's in "my" pudding.....

Good stuff,..and my staunch selection....fluid is changed, frequently.

Best,

Doyle
