Looking for fender lip rolling expert in Atl to help me out!
Just got some wheels for my car that will most likely require some lip rolling. I'm a little intimidated by this baseball bat approach. Have any of you in Atlanta done this? Would you be into hooking up and supervising? I'll be happy to provide beer and or food, etc...! Heck; anyone else who wants to do this to their car can come over and we can have a full blown lip rolling party bash! Thanks-

Adam, I found that using a 1- 1/4 inch PVC pipe cut to about 2.5 - 3 ft long worked better for me that the baseball bat. You have to remember to start and remain slow and diligent. You just want to get the sharp edge bent up into a V shape from the normal L shape. If you go to fast or apply too much pressure too soon you run the risk of flaking your paint.
my 2 cents worth...good luck

Sounds like Adam has the bug!
What wheels/size did you go with? The PVC approach sounds like a good idea and certainly suggest going slow on this one. Call Bob at Performance Imports - I'm sure they've done this a few times.

mike:
i traded an extra set of fuchs i had for mike z's old wheels. they are 16" 993 wheels completely powder coated in black; outer lips, too. really killer wheels. 225's up front on 7.5" wheels. 245's in back on 8.5" wheels, i think. you think performance imports would give some advice? |

Great tread combination on cool wheels!!!
Bob is a great guy - very helpful - better to stop by the shop as it's hard to get him on the phone. Make sure you tell him how you how/where your heard of his shop. Sunroof (Bob) and MM83targa (Mark) will concur - honest bunch - been great help to me also. If you decide to pursue yourself - just take your time as not to crack the paint - little by little on the rolling.

There is a tool that you can use to do this, i thought that the Tire Rack rented one, i could be wrong, it would be best to call the dealer or find out who specializes in Porsche Paint. I did my car with a long Hammer, well the wood part, I took off the tire put one hand on each side of the hammer starting on the front and pressed and pulled, it will take you quite a while to get it right, but you have to go slow and not bend to fast, if you dont get it bent far enought the tire will snag the lip when it compresses and pull the lip down, then the paint chips etc, and leaves damage to the body line edge in the wheel opening, Have fun
Remember you can not put 225's on the front even with a rolled lip,,, Kevin 82sc to wide body C2 |

The rears are 9s, Adam....
BTW the fronts did not rub that bad. Only when turning and hitting a bump.....I am running a little lower than euro heights....

I ran 225 & 245-16's on my 7&8" Fuchs all summer with no rubbing at all (front fender lips are rolled).

My car is a factory lowered car, so this magnifies the problem. If you plan to lower your car make sure the lips are rolled first or it will tear the hell out of the lips, Kevin

I have rolled a few cars with baseball bats and 1 1/2" pipe. It seems intimidating but I have never seen anyone "mess it up".
I ran 225 kumhos on 7x16 & 265 on 9x16 on my track car. It is very low and has 3 degrees negative camber and rolled lips. No problem on the front but I got a blister up about 1 1/2" on the left rear 1/4. I know guys who run 245 on 8" 944 turbo rear wheels on the front of 911s. |
