Installing sound pad, will this stuff work?
 

I am going to replace my engine sound pad while I have the engine out for a clutch job. I couldn't find any of the 3m "Super" adhesive, all I could find locally was this stuff. Will it work, or should I keep looking?

That stuff works ok for carpeting etc...but I wouldnt go through the trouble of using it with your sound pad...keep looking for the 3M product, or order it from a catalog, JC Whitney and just about any other place has it available

I used Dynamat for eng. comp. and trans tunnel.

While we are on the subject - does the mat insulate the passenger compartment from engine heat as well as sound?

I'm dropping the engine too and my insulation mat has fallen. I was just going to rip the thing out and not replace it. I don't mind hearing the engine better ;)

The Dynamat has a thick foil that should keep out heat. Placement in trans. tunnel keeps out that trans. gear whine and road noise muffled.

About the dynamat; is it heavy? And also, did you just put it on tunnel under the carpet? And where the factory sound pad goes?

I put it outside when eng/trans was out. Then under carpets. It does have weight. I probally used 50-60 pounds worth all over

The heavy engine compartment pad won't stay put with the regular 3M adhesive. BTDT. Lost cause.

Use the heavy-duty stuff, or "carpet glue".

The "Heavy Duty" 3M works great on engine pad.

Is the foil on the dynamat to the outside? Can it be painted. Does it have a self stick backing.

I was thinking of using it in the engine compartment, but want something I can paint.

Most of the Dynamat selections have foil on outside. There is one style that doesn't. Chek out their site.

Sound Pads?.................

Skip the pad, they are a messy hassle. Enjoy the noise!

Well, I already have the pad, and the engine is sitting next to the car, so I may as well put it in.

I will keep looking for the good 3M stuff.

It's available for sure at Napa Auto Parts and the counter guys affectionately refer to it as "gorilla snot" which will make complete sense once you start using it.

both my xj6 & 911. It is lightweight, about 5/8"
thick, has the foil on the outside and is self
adhesive on the back. Have had it on the jag
for a year and it shows no sign of coming
loose. The size that it is sold in is large enough
to replace sound pad and cover the lid sheet
metal on the 911.

No, this stuff won't work. WE SELL THE STUFF THAT DOES WORK! As well as 101 Projects, which has this engine pad replacement as one of the projects...
