hi
first thread - although i've read thousands, great source of info thanks guys. my problem is the usual baulky gear changes on a 915 (1986). i thought i would check the cable adjustment. however when i unscrewed the adjusting nuts at the tranny this did not slacken the cable enough to remove it, (to enable lever adjust). is this right? am i missing something? there seems to be tension in the cable even when the nuts are lossened. i gave up and had to unscrew the adjusting screw almost right the way out to get 1mm gap. that left too much slack at the pedal so i adjusted the gap to about 1/2mm. do i need a new cable? advice greatly appreciated. dickie

There is a spring at the pedal that maintains tension on the cable. After you've loosened the adjusting nuts, use a pair of pliers to pull the cable off the lever end. The pedal will flop to the floor.
My adjustment screw is also all the way out to get 1.0 mm (if that). I attribute that to a worn clutch. Since it isn't slipping and I can minimize chatter through practiced technique (ha!), I'm letting it go for the time being. Chris. |
