front strut insert rocking freeplay-question

I am removing my Bilstein front strut inserts to get revalved for new T-bars and did a check on wear before removing them from the strut housing.

I have some slight rocking of the strut insert due to clearance with the upper bearing and seal in the strut housing and wanted opinions on what was an acceptable or expected amount of freeplay here?

There has to be some radial clearance between the strut insert and the upper strut bearing which would allow a little rocking movement between the 2 parts but never having seen a new strut to compare to I want to get an idea if I need to send my strut housings out for replacement of this bearing.

Fred,

These bushings do wear out. I have a handful of friends who've had to replace these. Clint at Rebel Racing does the replacement, but he's pretty busy these days.

Send Craig Garrett at G2 Performance a pm (username here = cgarr) for his input on acceptable clearance/wear and he'll shoot it to you straight. He provides replacement service and and he can get them turned around for you quite quickly. He and his brother Denny, also on Pelican, are local friends in MI and great guys who really know their stuff.

cgarr took care of re-bushing my strut inserts. Real fast turn-around time.

Clint is doing a run of struts right now. I saw them at the machine shop last Saturday.

Nice pieces, offset ball joint attachment for more camber, raised spindles, de-cambered spindles,... Excellent welding on the Aluminum.

:)
