engine won't turn over
 

hi,
the other day got in my 83 911sc and when i turned the key, nothing! I thought that maybe my battery was dead, that i have turned on the overhead light while working in the back seat area. but nope, i had all my power, lights, radio, ect...

well, seemed like it might be my starter/solenoid. got that out and replaced the solenoid. just got it back in and when i turned the key, nothing, again!

where do i look now? is there a relay i am overlooking? all my fuses are good.
my experiance is limited but i do read and willing to learn.

all sugestions will be appreciated.

Can you hear the starter engage?
Did you take off starter or just the solenoid?
Could it be possible your starter is engaged and locked up with the flywheel?
I've had that happen before.
If so, put the car in gear and rock it forwards and backwards a little, then try to start.
If the starter is not engaging then I'd say it's likely electrical.
That should be pretty straight forward to go through.

Have you charged the battery overnight Craig?

You have the yellow wire wrong.
The yellow wire goes high and the yellow/blue goes to the lower tag on the starter.

you might have enough juice to run your lights, etc but not enough to turn your starter over. Give it a charge first then report back.

Also check your contacts and grounds, especially the trans ground strap.

Just a thought...ignition switch bad??

Use a remote starter
 

It could be bad contacts at your ignition key switch. I had this happen on mine. I would turn the key and nothing...To check for that, just bypass it by connecting a remote starter to the starter solenoid. If it cranks like that, you got your culprit. Unplugging and replugging the key switch was the fix for me.
