Where to redo a Targa top
Local trim shop or interior shop? Seems to me I saw an ad in one of the P mags advertising a cheap rehab of the targa top. Any help here?
Thanks |

I wouldnt send my Targa to either of those choices. Dan at Cars Inc in NJ. He did mine. http://carsinc-nj.com/index.htm
There are only a couple shops in the entire country that have the parts. Many are NLA at the dealer. Worth sending it to NJ. It comes back better than it left the factory. Cant say that about most trim shops. Plan on the Stage 3 ($895) if its never been redone.

Ther are several that advertise in the mags.
Like brads911sc says, I, too, would send mine to Dan Pechtel at Cars, Inc in NJ. He has helped me with my top in the past with parts and advise.

Dan at Carsinc did mine as well. His service is a good one. There is also another guy in Colorado that does good work and has a pretty rigorous process for the rebuild and would be worth talking to (I think his name is Doug Brown?). I can dig up the info for the Colorado guy if you like. Regardless of which guy you use you will spend about 1000 for a high quality rebuild. If you take it to another type of shop that doesn't specialize in this type of work and does not understand the complex construction of the tops you will be very unhappy with what you get back. A poorly rebuilt top will result in incredibly loud wind noise coming from the top at Highway speed.

The expert in the west is Dave Brown
That's all he does. EXCELLENT! He did mine - like new - probably better than new. Targa Tops by Dave Brown (303) 499-0110 6186 Gale Dr, Boulder, CO 80303 Last edited by tcar; 05-28-2010 at 08:42 AM.. |

I was working from memory on Mr Brown's name. I've read through the description of the process he has developed for restoration and it is impressive. It's probably as close as you'll get to a new top from the factory based on the approach he takes when tearing down and rebuilding the tops.
