Anyone done 255 - 50 - 16 on 9s ?

Has anybody run 255 street tires on their 9s?

I found a matching set of Falken Ziex ZE-512 still available in the following size for the 7 and 9 Fuchs wheels


7s : 205/45/16
9s : 255/50/16 (245/45/16 is recommended for this wheel)

I think the 245s look so small on the 9s and would prefer a tire with a little more meat. Wondering if there is a significant compromise by stepping up to the 255s.

I drove my 911 for a while on a 205/255 combo. Understeered like a pig.

225/245 is pretty common, but the car is still pretty tail-happy.

225 front and 255 rear works great.

The normal size for a 16x7 on the front is 205 55 16 which will be about 24.8" tall. The 205 45 16 will be closer to 23.25" tall which will look pretty small. Some folks will even use a 225 50 16 on the front which gets you back to 24.8" tall.

245 45 16 will be a tad shorter than the norm at 24.5" tall, but the 255 50 16 will be a lot taller at 26" tall.

205 45 16 and 255 50 16 will probably look really funny if they are both on the same car.

How hard do you drive/corner? I think that if you really push it in the corners, that 255 50 16 might handle a little odd, but I've never tried it.

My Hoosier Wets are 225/255/50R16's, fit fine but my fenders are fully rolled.

I've got 225-50 on 7s and 255-50 on 9s and think it looks just right. The 225s are probably better on 8s but they are OK on 7s.

225x50 and 255x50sumitomos...I'll be going back to 245's in the rear. the extra sidewall is a little squirly when you hang the tail out.

A standard Carrera, not squirrelly with the tail out. I did it for the look, not performance. this is the before photo and I also thought the 245s looked a little wimpy. It's a daily driver, if I want to get every last 10th out of it I'll use my other wheels for autoX. I did notice acceleration is not as snappy, particularly in an AutoX and since the car doesn't really come alive until 3,500rpms - but I love how it looks. And yes, everyone gave me a lot of crap about this for some reason.

I think you mean the other way round. 245s on 9" and 205s on 7"

I have 255/40 on my 17" replica Fuchs. No problem with that. My car is originally Carrera wide.

I'm running BFG g-Force Sport 225/50 on 7x16 front & 255/50 on 8x16 rear.
No problems yet!
However, at first the front driver side scrapped the fender, but after a roll on the fender all is good...other than the inner fender wall when the wheels are fully turned in either direction...hence the no problems YET!

I have 7's & 8's and always use 205/55 & 225/50 in an R compound and it handles great. I would use the 245 rear if I had 9's. Not all tire profiles are the same so you may find a 245 that doesn't look too small. I think a 255 would make for a very flexy sidewall.

The sidewall height would be the biggest contributor here (with a 50 series tire). If you could find a 255/45 or even a 255/40, you'd sense no sidewall squirm. I have 255/40 R-compound tires on 17" wheels in back and the car is planted and stable.

The PO of my car put 295/forget sidewall/15's on (I use on loosely) 15x9 rears..... I'm not using them, but they look like donuts that are ready to explode

225/forget sidewall/15 on 15x7 fronts

Think the sidewalls were something like 60-65 (really tall)

The rear circumference is about 1 inch taller. As a weekend cruiser I can live with that .

There is a 930 in the garage at work. It runs 205/55/16 and 245/45/16 and that looks right I think.

Quick question - are there different part numbers for the 16"x9" Fuchs, or are they all the same?

If so, is there a site where I can see the differences?

If you go to the Porsche website and look under "Classics" you can find the 9 Fuchs wheels there .. apparently they are available directly from Porsche again.
