What in the world is the Microphone for on the early 911 Blaupunkts?

I helped a friend recently purchase a really nice 1976 911 here in Tucson. It was a great car that needed sorting out. I've got it all buttoned up and he is off enjoying it.

We have been joking around about this microphone that has the start/stop switch and all I could think it was for would be a car alarm out of the 80's that had a P.a.

Surfing around I just found this Blaupunkt on Ebay that has the same microphone.
Could anyone tell me what it is for?

Thanks an advance!
Christopher

Blaupunkt invented the karaoke machine.

Dictaphone perhaps? So you can record your thoughts on-the go!

It looks like the red button might be a record button.

My Blaupunkt MP74 comes with a mic, but it is used to calibrate the equalizer, and it listens for ambient noise and turns the volume up automatically. I believe the Bremen has the same feature.

Yes. The microphone was meant to be used for recording to the cassette tape. The 1977 911S I had many years ago came with a Blaupunkt Bamberg which had the pull out microphone on a cord.

I never tried the microphone. I didnt have anything important to say whilst driving !

Thanks everyone.
If it was for karaoke I absolutely guarantee you he would be bidding on that radio! He is a karaoke fool. I know him well.

My dad had one put into his 912 many years ago. He would dictate legal stuff on his drive to work, then his secretary would type what he said. He used it almost daily for a while.

Tuned6:

By the way, to an old guy like me , a 1976 911 isn't an "early 911"
