Can Barely See the Ground! (Time to Store 911)

It is snowing so hard here in downtown Minneapolis today that I can barely see the ground from my office on the 31st Floor. I guess it is time to cancel the liability insurance and store the 911 for the winter. Porsche withdrawl syndrome (PWS) begins!

I know that some people drive their 911's in the snow, but mine is an early model without much protection against road salt. I guess I will have to look at Jack Olsen's website and dream of warmers days ahead. Fortunately, I have a new garage in which to work on the 911 through the winter and a long list of inexpensive things I would like to do (fix up the interior and replace the carbs with a better set of used ones that I bought last year).

My 911 is parked up here in Brooklyn Park. It's got about an inch and a half of white stuff sitting on top of it. Can't wait to get out on the road, but the first snow fall of the year creates the worst traffic problems.

My only problem is that I forget the snow brush, so I'll be brushing the snow off with my bare hands.

I packed my T away yesterday... No snow here, yet :)

I put mine away yesterday too. It is a total bummer. Each year I always have this grand list of "mothballing" techniques and each year I do pretty much nothing! I did manage to put stabilizer in a full tank of gas, remove battery and cover but that's about it. Depressing. I did however just read in another post that Brad Pitt drives the same car I do in Spy Game so I got that going for me. (said in the same tone as Carl..Bill Murray..in Caddyshack when describing how the Dali Lama stiffed him on a tip but offered a proverb instead. Vague reference I know but I am sure someone knows what I am talking about).

Caddyshack is one of the best movies of all time. However Robert Redford was the one driving the car in Spy Game. But you still got that going for you.
I see all you boys are getting hammered with snow today. I'm originally from Duluth, MN and I don't envy you. Another fine driving summer comes to a close.

I caught that reference before you explained it. There are lots of great quotes from that movie that I frequently use. Such as "It's in the lumberyard", "that's a peach hun", and "the pond would be good for you".

I think the Dali said to "Carl" something like "Gunga da Munga"

joehahn 11-26-2001 12:43 PM

I am dying laughing Bill! Whenever my buddies and rip a ball into the water we always give it a "...right in the lumberyard". Whenever a buddy tops one and it goes about 10 feet they undoubtedly get a "...Mrs. Havekamp, Mrs. Havekamp...". And then of course, whenever swimming ANYWHERE, "the pond would be good for you!" I am still cracking up.

Spyderman, Redford aint so bad! Your post regarding Redford and snow conjures Jeremiah Johnson, you know when he first migrates to the mountains and can't get a fire started in snow...

whoops, getting further and further off-topic....

When the real Dali Lama was in Minneapolis for a visit recently, my dim witted ex-wrestler governor asked him if he'd ever seen Caddy Shack!

Shoot, I drove mine into work today here in texas and plan to do so all winter. I would much rather have snow, but I guess Ill take what i can get.

The weather finally turned here in Michigan as well. Got to drive it longer than expected. I put mine into semi-storage yesterday but plan to drive it whenever the main roads are dry. At least ski season is nearly here!! :D

Lets see, hmmmm a foot and half of snow on the ground over the weekend, more due later this week. The Porsche is parked at the end of the garage and it looks like that's where it'l be until March. Sighhhh

On a brighter note at least I can snow board to kill the time.

Road salt deterioration isn't the only consideration...Was stationed in the UP of Michigan for 10 years and was born and raised in Buffalo NY. No stranger to snow here. Spent many a year on the "idiot" end of a snow shovel. Try being stationed at a military base where you've got folks that have never seen, much less driven in snow. With no curbs to guide em you see tracks from cars over lawns...curbs..etc. and lets talk about parking at a major store. With no lines to guide em you should see how they park!

Carl Spackler (Bill Murray) in "Caddyshack" -- "So I jump ship in Hong Kong and
make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the
Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I'm a pro
jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the
Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So I'm on the first tee with him. I
give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one -- big hitter, the Lama -- long, into a
10,000-foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama
says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's
gonna stiff me. And I say, 'Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know,
for the effort, you know.' And he says, 'Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when
you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consiousness.' So I got that goin' for
me, which is nice."
