915 shaft measurement for mid-engine project

Hello to all you folk with a 915 transaxle sitting on a shelf next to your computer.
I need the dimensions of the input shaft relative to the bellhousing face on a 915 transaxle for my 67 double cab 3.2 mid engine project, this is to cut down and machine the 915 splines into the 944 torque tube shaft(its a little long)!

A straight edge across the bellhousing and tape or caliper to note the distance is all I need.
I have a loose shaft to use as a reference for the machinist.

Thanks in advance for your assistance in my wacky build.
Here are some photos to assist in your visual comprehension of my numerical need(metric, inch or decimal inch data points all appreciated)

More pictures and explanations as to WHY? on my build thread in the lonely vw/porsche forum.

I like wacky. If you still need this measurement I will get it for you today. I'm not at the shop, but will be there in a few hours.

Kind of an aside, buy why not a 924 turbo snail gearbox? What made you pick the 915? I'm curious.

Measurement taken of the mainshaft length beyond the bellhousing from a 915/02, early 915 transmission, is 6.5mm.

Hey, thanks 356rs that is one good data point now if I could get a couple more to take out any variables that would be awesome!
Thanks too for calling out the parts used for measuring, I am using a aluminum 915 into a 84 3.2 clutch if that makes a difference, so maybe someone has a late 915 to add to the data pool I would appreciate it.

356rs you do classic wacky, I checked out your photos, nice.

Matt, I went with the late 944s2 trans as it has a strong R&P and the parts are more available, I read about the legendary snailshell during my research stage but did not find any to look at.
I used the 915 as a link in the bell housing chain, from the 3.2 to the cut down front 944 bell to the shortened torque tube to the 944 rear trans-axle.
It is detailed more in my build thread in the VW/Porsche modified forum.

Stephen.

Stephen, I get the same measurement of 6.5mm from a 1981 Alum case 5-speed type # 915/63.

Hey 356RS that would be excellent to get a different measuring point, thanks!

Thanks for the kind words Matt, I am lucky to have Seth as the fabricator as my metal skills only involve tearing stuff apart, and some grinding maybe.

Thanks Mark, that was fast!
So 6.5mm sticking out past the bell-housing face it is.
Now I can mock up the drive line and mark the 944 drive shaft to get the 911 splines machined. Excellent.
Thanks again for the help.
Stephen
