1985 Carrera rear bumper guards

Hello,

I'm thinking about buying an '85 Carrera Coupe that is in fantastic condition. One thing I don't like is the rear bumper guards on these cars - I don't think it was one of the finer moments in Porsche's design history. Is there an alternative at all? Some sort of aftermarket solution perhaps?

Thanks,

Steve

Have you seen the Euro bumperettes? They are better looking and cheaper alternative if you get them used then to buying a whole new bumber

No, do you have a photo? Are they difficult to find?

Thanks

Looks good. I'd be interested in seeing a photo when it's all back together.

Bumper pad

My bumper is a Euro and the holes are different and I have Euro bumper pads on it as you can see in the photo. I had the oil temp drop by 5 degrees in the summer after cutting the holes in the rear bumper.

I am also sending a photo showing the original bumper mounted on the car.

I have a rear bumper for sale that has the bumperettes removed and holes filled if you want to keep your stock one. Just send me a PM if interested.

Don, Where did you find those longer bumper trims?

Take care.

I agree they date the car.
Remove the guards, fill holes with thickened epoxy or your favorite filler, paint and waalaa...

Thanks, I realized that when I took another look at mine, somehow they looked longer to me on the pic.

Take care.

From what company and how much you paid for the bumpers and shipping? I'm interested in a Euro bumper set but I hear conflicting stories that they work/not work on a 930 that has different valence than a 911. Can anyone verify?

Keep in mind that the trim goes under the bumper so that's why it looks longer with bumpers off.

There were two versions of the bumper guards, for both the US and Europe. '74-83 911s used one length (911 part number prefix) and the turbos and 3.2 Carreras used another (930 part number prefix.) The difference is that the valance on the turbo and Carrera 3.2 is a little further back, to accomodate the muffler (and the heat shield, on the cars that have one.) The bumper guards for these cars is a little shorter towards the bottom, than the earlier ones.

I also removed the guards, had the holes welded and then painted the bumper.

Thanks for the great info. I really like the look when they are removed entirely.
