Calling Wil Ferch

Wil,

I'm in the process of rebuilding my suspension (PolyBronze, new torsion bars, etc.) I came across your calculator to set rear ride height. I want to go the European ride height of 25" at the bottom of the centerline of the rear fender. The current suspension has the spring plates down on the spacer that is at the bottom rear of the torsion bar/spring plate cover, and it is about 22 degrees. The calculator put the recommended angle for my new 28 mm bars at 23-24. How is that going to work out?

Thanks,

Tut

Not Wil here, but having done this myself, I think your mistake is that you have left the spacer and bolt in the cover. The angle measurements of the spring plate before and after must be taken with the spacer removed and the spring plate "unfettered" (not resting on the stop that the spacer provides). See Thom Fitzpatrick's step-by-step torsion bar removal page. He's the one who used Wil's calcs to make the spring plate angle calculator page here.
