Polygraphite arm bushing Question

Why is there two different numbers on the bushings 2558 rear 2557 front?

After a search could not find any reason for this.

They seem identical.

bkreigsr 03-09-2010 08:30 AM

that might be just the mold or lot number.
they should be interchangable, unless they have started doing someting to the durometer of the fronts vs. rears.

you want to throw them away anyway...

use new rubber of the polybronze items

Check the OD, I think they are slightly different from front to back.

Purchased the rubber bushings on ebay $38.00.

Elepahnt Racing Rubber is 5 times that price. Are they worth it?

is a flat 6 Porsche motor worth the extra cost compared to a V-6 from a Kia?

I was trying to figure out why Elephants rubber was $225 for 4 front bushings. I guess they have to recoup R&D costs. What is the verdict on the $38 ones from ebay? They appear to be made by Uro.

Note the install video halfway down the page.

It must be for that (the R&D) and the tools which I don't need. I don't know for sure.

Randy, Do you think the rubber from ER is a better quality? Especially $200.00 worth.
I'll take my chances. At least I took your suggestion not to use the PG bushing! I don't use smiles if I did I'd put one HERE.

This I know the answer to. Now, can anyone answer the bushing question? For a few dollars more I can get the polybronze. Are the Elephant Rubber worth $225?

RWebb 03-09-2010 02:30 PM

I do not know about the rubber quality per se.

In general, tho, I see CV joint boots that last only a year or two before disintegrating - these are usually made in China and are often sold on flea-bay...

Considering the amount of on-your-back labor involved, I would do it once - not set up a situation where I might have to do it twice.

I do look forward to seeing what people say a few years down the road - it will be an interesting experiment.

The big picture is for front AND backs. For ER rubber, you are looking at $295, while for ER PB you are looking at $575. That means I will probably go with ER rubber, and because I am a lazy bastard and don't want to have to remember greasing suspension bits.

na2ub 03-12-2010 12:16 PM

Anybody else chime in on the Ebay bushings?

bkreigsr 03-12-2010 12:23 PM

for the price difference, I went with neatrix from weltmiester and made my own install tool, (though it wasn't billet aluminum) and saved about $130

ELEPHANT RACING Rubber Suspension Bushings, 911

Go ahead and install the poly-graphite. Then we can all look for your thread asking how to stop the squeaking.

calling911 03-13-2010 04:52 AM

I used to use poly bushings in a race car.. I never heard them squeak.. :)

Seriously, pack them with a waterproof synthetic grease and they will not squeak... buncha elitists on here.. ;)

If you wanna be sure thread them for a great fitting.. I doubt it would hurt to have a small hole in them... plenty of material.. when you are on a budget you gotta do what ya gotta do.
