Porsche Crest Porsche 911s 1975

Hi , i have a problem with my revcounter, the needle seems to flick up and down on its own , does anybody know the cause of this , thanks,

Clean and adjust your points, then verify the grounds on the ignition circuit.

90% of the time it's your points as dtw has pointed out. It could also be a cracked distributor cap or other things - but in general with these cars, it's most likely something really simple like the points. So go after the easy stuff first.

Yep, could be a coil going out, but check the easy/free/common stuff first. You can inspect the cap/rotor too, while you're cleaning & adjusting the points. I'll echo the above, 90% of time it is the points. One time I did discover a failed ground connection on the igntion harness, though.

OK. i have a new distributor cap and rotor on there , i also changed the ignition leads and fuel filter as ive been getting a jolty engine when pulling away, does this car have a condenser ,

THE car always starts well and the engine idles well and revs up good, but when i pull away it sometimes is jolty but as i change up the gears and get into 4th gear it runs really well at higher speed
