Electrical tape

Sometimes You just need it for wrapping wire bundles, etc

I have mainly used 3M Scotch Super 33+,But A friend turned me onto some very high quality Fabric electrical tape.

Its a tightly woven, fire retardant tape. It's really strong. In fact you cannot tear it by hand. You will have to use a pair of sharp scissors to cut it.It has a low sheen and looks OEM, something that the factory would use if they had it on hand. Most of the tape on My 86' looks like super 33,but just like any vinyl overtime it gets brittle and hard.

Anyone know if Porsche uses something like this?

Its a Benz part#

No they did not use this type. They used the shiny non adhesive style. 1 inch I think. I actually wrapped over my original wiring in the engine compartment with this type of cloth non adhesive tape to protect for long trips to wet climates like CO in the winter. It also helps preserve the original wiring.

What's your reasoning for this? Wouldn't you want something that doesn't absorb water?

For what it's worth, there was some similar fabric electrical tape where the wires for my headlight plugs exited the wiring harness tubing. I couldn't tell you if it had always been there, though.

"fabric" is waterproof. it is a good product for putting on an extra insulated layer to preserve older original wiring wraps that you want to keep in good shape for shows or resale. it is a temp thing for my car and only in the exposed engine compartment for winter driving.
