Won't Start - Won't Turn Off!

Turned my key to start the car this afternoon and nothing! No starter, no engine crank, no clicking, etc. However, the typical dash lights, seat belt warning light, etc. turned on as usual. My windows work, sun roof works, headlights are nice and bright, battery good.

The typical resistance after turning the key 1/2 way does not seem to be there. As you continue to turn the key and reach the position where it would fire up the starter ... no resistance at all.

As I turn the key back and extract it, everything feels and sounds correct. But, the ignition energy is still on. The dash lights stay on, windows work, sun roof works, etc. and this is after turning the ignition switch to off position and pulling the key.

Does this sound like the symptoms of an ignition switch gone bad?

Thanks, Rich

Yes, sounds like your electrical portion of the ignition switch has gone bad. You can change the electrical portion only and same some $$$ vs changing the whole unit.

yes, probably the mechanical portion. Remove lock assembly & electrical switch and you'll probably find the driver portion [little tab protruding at the end of the mechanical switch [the part that the key turns] is a damaged and not turning the electrical part of the ignition switch assembly. If this part is ok and the lock tumblers are working normal I would try another electrical portion of the ing. switch assembly. I'm not to good at es planing things so I don't mean to sound like you don't have any knowledge of part names or workings. Just wanted to make sure I communicating as best as I can. DS

Ignition Part

I bought this from our host 3 years ago thinking I'd like to replace it for a preventative maintenance kinda thing. Looks like I've got the right part. Thanks!!!

Either spend the big bucks for a new switch or if it was me i'd machine a slot
in the mech. part to accept a tab that would protrude from one into the other.
Just a straight piece no need for the cross shape of the elec. part.
Take it to a machine shop and see what they would charge.

New or used.
I have a used one $175+ ship. $5-10? usps flat rate box you will have to get re-keyed at locksmith @ $30-50

Well ... I'd prefer not to spend $629 to fix this problem. Dick Shift, I might be contacting you. Does anyone have a picture that will illustrate what has broken?

From the picture it looks like the tab that fits into the cross part of the elec. side of the switch
is broken off. Is it stuck in there?
Look at your new one.

Switch Assembly

I got the tab that broke off out of the electrical part. See image. Am I looking at a new or used assembly to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance for all of your input!!!
