front strut bump stops still required?
I was sending my Bilstein front strut inserts out for rebuild and noticed that the original rubber bumper donuts inside the strut housing had been disintegrated into litttle pieces. Possibly age or likely impact damage from bottoming out the front struts but anyway here is my question:
I have been told that the original style bump stops are no longer required as they are internal to the strut inserts that are being currently remanufactured/rebuilt. IS THIS TRUE? I have not seen a replacement offered for the Bilstein insert on this Pelican site where I order all my parts so am wondering if this is a true statement. I am scepticle and want to make sure before I reinstall the inserts without new bump stops and in the event I do bottom out the suspension I dont damage the insert. Fred

Did some more digging and cannot find a supplier for these bump stops anywhere.
This is becoming a hassle finding out information. Bilstein in NC cannot answer my questions either and waiting on a call back from Bilstein CA which is rebuilding my inserts currently. Anyone can point me to a supplier of these bump stops so i can order a new set?

You need new rubber bump stops as they are not internal on 911 shocks.
Bilstein has them so ask them to send a pair when they return your shocks.

Steve, I check my car with revalve Bilstein insert without bump stop, just insert and dust cover, is it ok to run like this, also how to torque the insert to camberplate, impact wrench? use normal wrench will turn the nuts and insert shaft together. thanks

I use an impact gun to set the 55 lbs-ft, but I've been doing this for a long time and I know my equipment very well. ![]() ![]() You can use a set of channel locks (or big vise grips) to hold the concave washer and torque it to spec.

I just replaced my front boge inserts with bilstein sport struts. The bump stops from the boge's did not fit on the bilsteins so I didn't use any bumpstops.
My understanding is that the front inserts for Bilstein sport/HD have internal stops. If they were needed, wouldn't Bilstein include them??
