What orientation does the alternator go in?
 

Hello all,

I just got my fan housing and fan back from powder coating today.

I'm getting ready to re-install the alternator into the fan housing, but I can't decipher from my photos what orientation the alternator goes in. Should the writing on the back of the alt be level when the fan housing is set in it's proper orientation (based on the location of the coil mount)?

Figured it out. The text on the alternator goes UPSIDE DOWN.

I don't have a clue what type of car/alternator you have - but here is a pic of mine when I popped it out of my 87. It's a paris - Rhone and had the voltage regulator on the top of the picture.

My key concern with aligning it for return wasn't so much the mechanical side, but I wanted the terminals to be close to the wire routing. Hope this helps - your regulator may be different, but maybe this offers a clue.

Sorry....I was reading and talking to people at my computer at the same time. I thought you were talking about the distributor, now that I'm back I edited my previous post.

I see you powdercoated the fan. Only comment I have is to make sure there is enough clearance (not too tight) because if you get the fan belt tension too much, you can get some scraping. If you need more clearance, you might take some off the fan blades. In fact, re-check the clearance after the belt is on, but before you start up the engine.
