1980sc fan bearing issue.

Greeting fellow porsche technicians,

1st I must say I appreciate your time and knowledge. I'm involved in a love affair at 4-6.5 G on the tac, in a on a stock SC. I have been fortunate enough to just change oil and add fuel for the last 6G , this evening post Kinatros, insane sushi, I went for a hot lap, 16 miles of epic 911 single track....only 210 degrees on the oil temp post session, after 40 minutes of 4-6G repeats, front cooler I guess, but as I pulled into home pit letting her cool down , I detected a rattle near the fan, didn't sound internal, but a definite rattle, like a bearing starting to go out in the fan assembly. It was a hot session, and I plan to start her in the AM, to confirm that I may have blow up my first parts. Your thoughts are welcome.

Thanks again, do you guys enjoy the olfactory sensation of opening the door of your 911 and inhaling the unique smell of leather speed elegance? Rhetorical question I know. Impossible to understand unless you have made the sacrifices.

Aloha-

JS

Probably your alternator bearings starting to go. Is your fan belt properly tensioned? If you remove the belt and start the car for a few seconds you should be able isolate the noise to the alternator which would not then be turning.
