Still Can Not Start Engine!!
 
Hello,

As you may have seen from other posts I can not get my 2.7 RS spec engine running!!! I ahve 150 compression on all cylinders, spark to the plugs and fuel to the cylinders. It has been sitting for 2 yrs. withoiut being so much as turned over and now I am trying to get it running. I ahve replaced a few ignition parts and the belt for the MFI Fuel pump ( set to #1 cyl. instead of #4 but I will worry about that when I drop the engine!!), so any suggstions on why it won't start and what to do to make it run??

If you are getting spark to the plugs, have compression and fuel, it can only be either the distributor timing is way off or the MFI timing is way off. Double check both of those.

What are the symptoms. Is it sputtering at all or just turning over and over. Hows the gas since it was sitting for 2 years? Is the distributor in right? Are points new and clean. I hade a prob. when i oiled the dist. cam to much and it spun oil in the cap-would not start. Have you messed with the mfi pump-Is the all important rod set at 114mm center to center. That's the rod that goes from the control rack to the pump. Is your cdi humming when the key is on?

have the injectors been tested for proper function and a good spray pattern? how do you know there's fuel getting to the cylinders? are the plugs wet? are they black? neither will fire easily. you need hotter plugs with MFI, so they stay cleaner. something like a bosch wr8dp platinum, maybe a 9 even. what color is the spark? orange doesn't get it. general rule of thumb, if you have air, fuel and ignition source, fire will result. you must be missing one of them. does the starter crank quickly or does it drag? put some gas in a squirt can and with the throttles open, give each stack a little squirt. don't do it when you're cranking. some potential for a small stack fire, but if you keep cranking, the vacuum will pull the flame down, or just plug that stack. no air, no fire. with the stock cold start injection system, stack fires were a normal occurance. just keep cranking.

Hello,

I have replaced points, plugs, new gas, MFI belt, fuel pump. I have the gas running out of a can straight to the MFI pump just to get it running( I want it running before I drop it, I am going to install in a 914 track car and I want to have everything as copesthetic as possible before transplant). The spark to the plugs is blue although not as fat I would hope from the electronic spark enhancer. Also I static timed it and I have even tried to changet the timing with no decent results!!

This rod you are talking about is it from the accelerator to the pump?? Please explain further

Ooops,

Forgot to mention that I disconnected the metal fuel lines and put bags over them( for lack of better container) to make sure all cylinders were getting fuel, it did not work veryu well to say the least but I could gather that all cylinders were getting fuel.

Also the engine does turn freely with the starter motor and I have got it firing on a few cylinders (can't pin point which cylinders) but I just can not get it to run on it's own without the starter motor turning it over!!

MFI pump timing can be way off and the car still idle fairly well, but not drive for crap. Ask me how i know. But if you dont have the cold start hooked up it may not start at all because no one cylinder is getting enough gas to fire that first time. I had that problem, it would just crank and crank.
