brakes & bearings...sequence?
I'm ready to rebuild my dragging calipers and replace my groaning rear wheel bearings with the help of Bentley and the advice of this forum! Any thoughts as to the best sequence here? Brakes before, after or during the bearing removal?

You will need to remove the brake caliper and rotor along with the axle, CV joint and hub, to get to the rear wheel bearings.
I would carefully check the rear wheel bearing to be sure it is a problem. It's a big dirty job. I would also review the posts on this site about replacing the bearings. You'll need to make or borrow the tool to remove and replace the bearings. Plus a ratchet and socket to remove the large wheel nut @300+ ft/lbs. Plan on at least inspecting the CV Joints, probably new rubber boots and new CV bolts & washers.

Thanks, Doug...I'm armed and ready. Have about a dozen posts on the subject and the "home depot" tool to remove the bearings and a long breaker bar to apply the necessary torque to the stub axle nut..all ready to go. I had the CV boots (4) replaced just after I bought the car a couple of years ago...the PPI suggested the bearings would be next...so here I am.
Thinking of flushing the system with Valvoline Synpower before removing the the calipers, so it's clean ATE Blue I'm pushing through the rebuilt calipers when I bleed the system. But I believe I'll replace the bearings before rebuilding the calipers and re-installing. Thoughts?

Does the rear wheel move radially if you push against the rear bumper? Are you sure the rear wheel bearings are no good? It's a big job, just wanted to make sure before you start.

John Baldwin,
I've been using ATE Blue on the track for over 10 years. No problems. There may be other fluids as good, maybe better, I'm happy. Sounds like you are ready.

rusnak,
Thanks for your concern...I'd rather not have to do this if I can help it! To your question Does the rear wheel move radially if you push against the rear bumper?...I'm not sure I'm visualizing this right. Explain that to me again, please. The car right now is on jack stands with the wheels off. I determined I've got a problem based on the groaning I hear from the driver's side rear as I take corners turning left....
