Wooden Floorboard Repair

I tackled the damaged floorboard today

Trace out the shape of the damaged area and cut it from plywood:

Be brave, and don't look back. Note L30T Hellblau Metallic workbench. I really care about authenticity!

Epoxy it on: (yes a 1/24th 935 in the background. The closest I will get to owning one.)

Add thin fiberglass reinforcement on both sides. See representative piece of glass cloth.

I cut the floorboard as a square cut-out, thinking this would make the glue joint stronger. You'd have to shear one side while bending the seam on the other side. Adding the glass cloth seems like a belt and suspenders thing.

I also used epoxy to glue the delaminated sections together in the area near the drivers left heel. You can see that in the picture. It has already been painted black. A large area was delaminated, all layers. 5-minute epoxy squished into the surfaces, with a thin strip of wood, clamp and wait. Easy fix.

Last step will be to paint it black and seal with clear polyurethane. Seems it is a lot cheaper to fix than replace. Wood and glue were sitting around....

Sorry, I didn't understand your comment. I only have the set from my car. They are going back in.

Went a little different route and used some leftover diamond plate.

good repair

like your approach...re: fixing the board.

Consider a type of scarfe joint where both the board and the replacement section have a corresponding bevel where they meet - stronger joint. Also likely to not need glass
reinforcement

I had a similar failure and used some 0.020 Aluminium stock to make a new tab. Just pop riveted into place.
