GENTEX Auto-Dim, Homelink Rearview Mirror In '83

As the driving season approaches, I'm looking forward to a few small interior upgrades that make driving a bit more enjoyable. One of the items I've had my eye on is the GENK45A - a self dimming rearview mirror with 3 button homelink and compass.

The GENTEX site says their mirrors aren't recommended for Porsche. I contacted a representative who told me that this is a general rule which could have been made on any number of Porsche models due to slant of the windshield, or other installation factors. They said the mirror would probably work in my '83 with the right adapter.

Wondering if anyone else has upgraded their rear view mirror with a similar type aftermarket mirror and if so, what's involved?
