Wevo shifter installation on a 1972 911

Did a quick search and didn't see this covered. I recently purchased a WEVO shifter for my 1972 911T (looks a lot like an RSR with a 3.2L). The kit is apparently designed for 1973 on, but can fit 1972 with a couple parts. I asked WEVO and they said I needed to obtain a '73 - '86 shifter for: a threaded pin (911.424.335.00) and an O.E. Nut - M14 (N 011 113 3).
I found the threaded pin online and I'm hoping the M14 nut is a common item, but I wanted to throw this out to the community: I hear this is a great upgrade, but who has done this on a 1972? Are these two parts all I need? Should I get a 1973-86 shifter body? I want to be sure I can tackle this before I disable the car.

All 915 shift housing assemblies ('73-'86) are basically the same, and they will all fit into a '72. It's much better.

In '77, the factory added a threaded pivot pin on the front of the housing to provide side-to-side play adjustment. In addition, the "fork", the rectangular box that houses the shift lever and pivot was changed from a two-piece unit to a single piece.

You need a complete shift housing minus the parts included in the Wevo kit. As a result, you will have a '72 shift housing assy. as a spare.

You're welcome, Hayden (Wevo).

Okay, that sounds like a good plan. Also allows me to all the modifications to the unit prior to installation. I haven’t started looking for the unit, but any suggestions on where to start?
Thanks,
Matt

The '85-86 shifters have what is referred to as a factory semi-short shift setup. The shift throws were reduced modestly (10%) The factory also offered the regular short shift option (M241) in these years as well. However, these parts are replaced with components in the Wevo kit. I should let Hayden or others elaborate.

BTW, there are more subtle differences which I didn't mention. There's an excellent, detailed article in Vol. 8 of UpFixin' called "Short Shifters Analyzed" that summarizes all the iterations of the 915 shifter.

The WEVO 915 Shifter kit can be installed into either of the '73 to '86 base casting designs. The earlier version without the threaded pin being a little more diffcult, as there is a shimming exercise involved that can be frustrating unless you have the shims available to make an adjustment. The later housings, 1976 and later are far more convenient to assemble.

In reality, the parts of the shifter that are re-used, are not unique to the 915 shifter, you could in fact use the shifter from a 75 - 88 930 as you will find the relevent parts are actually 915 parts.

As Sherwood explained, many parts are actually discarded or replaced by parts in the kit. The few that are needed are explained in the product instructions. I am not sure if Pelican have them on their site, I suspect they do, or go to Welcome to Windrush Evolutions - WEVO - Porsche Products and read the pdf file on the shifter page.

Thanks for catching this inquiry Sherwood.
