Door closing/latching issue
 

I have a Carrera coupe that will often require me to shut the door twice before it fully latches and closes properly; rather annoying. The passenger side closes factory new as it was never used much.

Is there a thread someone can point me to for a latch adjusting procedure, or offer a method to the madness.? Seems like the hinge wear between both doors is about equal- that is if you rock the door up and down (like lifting it). It appears that the driver door latch is just out of whack.

I am not opposed to replacing parts either if need be.

You 'll need a "triple square" socket to adjust the door latch. Obviously, Pelican sells them or you can sometimes find them at SEARS. They are easy to strip out so be careful.

I would mark the location so you can get back if you get nutty with it. Check your door seams for alignment as well.


Does your door close easier if the window is down or even open slightly?

Oh Haha has a good point. Are you sure your hinge pins aren't wearing out and creating a bit of door sag? Just asking...

You may also want to check that the slotted mechanism on the door--the piece that pivots and "grabs" onto the bar in the door post latch--turns freely. You can test it by opening the door, and twisting it upwards until it "clicks" and the slot is pointing nearly horizontal. Then pull the trigger on the door handle and see if the pivot slot springs rapidly down as it should. A gummed up pivot can cause enough resistance to make a smooth closing difficult.

A properly aligned door is a little thing that makes a huge difference every time you use the car.

Yes, an 8mm 12-point triple square bit will loosen the starry-looking bolts in the door striker. Be careful when you loosen them as not to strip them, however. The first time I tried adjusted my driver's side door, I felt absolutely retarded ... the second time (after adjusting one of the hinges that was out of alignment in my case), I got it right on the first try. Hard to explain the difference....
