Trigger wheel trouble

Has anyone had trouble with the clewett trigger wheel?

I have mounted a 127 mm hub with trigger wheel on my 3.2 engine. (Clewett standard)

The trouble is that it seems to be a too tight fit between sensor and block, so I cannot get the sensor directly in center line of the triggerwheel.

I also had to grind some material off the block in the area where the sensor bracket is mounted, in order to make it fit at all. Also I had to grind off some of the bottom of the fan housing, and shorten the stud that sits in the hub.

I seems that the hub is just too close to the block to really make it work.
Does this make sense to anyone?

I have one on my 2.8 race motor. But that's a sand cast early case, and I didn't build it. I just mounted my sensor in the already installed Clewitt bracket. I don't recall problems, and in any case it worked fine. The previous owner of the engine had drilled a hole in the motor mount so he could more easily get an Allen wrench in there to tighten the clamp on the sensor.

e-mail him. He's a good guy.
