Recognize this brand of oil cooler?
I am trying to identify the manufacturer of an oil cooler that was sold in 1987. I have compared it to the brands that I am familiar with from back in those days but I haven't figured it out. You can see a sticker on the top, which is red lettering on a white background. I am hoping that that's a sticker from the company who made it and not from a company that might have cleaned or pressure tested it.
This would have been available in So. Cal. in the late 80's and probably have come from a supplier that sold to race teams. Anybody recognize it? Thanks, Jeff ![]() |

That is what is known as plate construction. Earl's , Mocal, and Setrab are current suppliers of units that look like that. The one pictured looks a lot like a 10 plate MGB cooler with the mounting tabs cut off each end

I've looked at Earl's, Mocal and Setrab, among others and haven't found anything exactly like that one. If I remember correctly, the Earl's logo hasn't changed and the markings on the Mocal and Setrab coolers are different as well.
It wouldn't surprise me to find that it did come from England, as a lot of the racing business was centered there in those days. Anybody remember some English brands? JR |

I'm starting to lean toward a company whose name begins with an S, such as Setrab or Serck. I have found another photo showing part of the label and the name seems to begin with the letters Se...
I'll forward a picture to Serck in the UK and see if they recognize the cooler or the logo. The cooler details and the logo don't match anything on the market today, but maybe they have changed over the years. Thanks, Jeff |

Well,
An inquiry to Serck in the UK indicates that it probably was a "Serck Speed" branded cooler. They are no longer made but it seems the MBG crowd used something similar, so perhaps I can find a used one. Thanks for the help, Jeff |

the mgb has too many rows. But the mfg is the same as the first one posted. I am betting same cooler as fitted to the 67 Cooper S. Check with mini mania in california. They have them

Yeah, I need a 10-row, not a 13-row. But, it's very close....
I called the Mini Mania guys and they can get a Mocal 10-row but it's not as close in appearance to the original Serck as the one posted in the photos by JMH82SC. I'm still looking around.... Thanks, Jeff Last edited by javadog; 12-09-2009 at 08:10 AM.. |

It's close, but the current offerings from Setrab differ in a couple details, like the shape of the end tanks and the way the oil line fittings attach to the body of the cooler. The one picture posted by JMH82SC is very, very close to what I need, just the wrong size...

Okay,
I have finally identified the cooler. It was definitely made by Serck in the mid-'80's and labeled "Serck Speed." Serck is still around but their current offerings are a little different. What I really need is to replicate the decal that was on top of the thing. It was red on white, with the company logo on the left and some additional writing on the right. I have attached a photo that shows the logo. I know it's a real long shot but maybe somebody has a catalog or book from those days with one of these advertised in it. I've looked at the hundreds of things in my library and come up empty. Anybody else remember this? Thanks, Jeff ![]() |

Not a very difficult logo to replicate. A good graphic designer could bang that out in an hour. You could then take it to a sign shop and have them print it as a vinyl decal.

Yes, the logo is easy but I am trying to find a cooler with one of the stickers intact, as the logo was just about 1/3 of what was on the decal. If you look at the photo at the beginning of this thread, you can see the sticker on the top of the cooler. I can't read the writing...
