Rear uprights? Le Mans

Ok I watched my copy of Le Mans again last night with a friend. There is the scene where the one mechanic was told to check the rear uprights, then Steve McQueen ( Micheal Delany) was told to watch out because of them (rear uprights)

What the hell are Rear uprights? I am thinking shocks??

Thanks James I hate getting asked these questions and not knowing the answers

Rob the movie can be bought at any of those movie "specialty" shops in the malls. It will be a remake of course, mine has previews for movies that are only 3 years old.

Unfortunately I live in the UK and work in Switzerland.
I will need a mail order company, none of the usual suspects seem to stock it anymore.

WOW Rob thats quite the commute, do you take the first turnoff in germany to get to Switzerland or do you go through France haha.

I will try to find an on-line place for you to order, I'll have to do it from home, herre at work I am limited to sites that I can access, luckily I get Pelican unlike poor Leland.

To supplement jadams almost perfect description here is a photo of a 917 rear upright. I think this term is primarily British, we'd probably call it a hub or something like that. I dunno.

As far as the movie, since I have an almost freakish affinity for that flick I recall the scene. What was interesting is that the mechanics end up pulling out one of the control arms and you see the end is broken off. I'll post a photo of it later.

They're $10 at Amazon.com. If you don't already own the movie, get it. It probably the best racing movie ever, way Better than Grand Prix IMHO. And for $10 they're a great stocking stuffer!

Angry

WHY??? OH WHY??? I thought I was getting a great buy on the flick when I paid $29.95...plus shipping, of course. One of the laws of nature. Buy something, see it in a week or two for 1/3 the price.
