OK guys picky, picky, picky. You can also leave the 6V wiper motor in and install an in-line resistor to lower the voltage to it. Yes you can run a 6V starter on 12V but!!!! Right is right, and you can remove the flywheel, have the teeth machined off and have a correctly toothed (yes there available) ring gear pressed on.
THAT SAID, I wasn't writing a step by step manual on how to convert, I was only giving a general outline that this is not an easy conversion process. You can write a book on the proper way to convert a car as per original 1965 specification. I'm not going there. It was just to help the new guy realize that this is a time consuming, pricey, and generally unnecessary upgrade. That's all, no more no less. But thanks for everyones input.

Also one other item I was incorrect on is that Porsche no longer calls their information document a Kardex it is now called a Certificate of Authenticity or COA.
I'm not too proud to say I got something wrong. I love it when others voice there experiences and expertise, thats what these forums are great for.

mine is still working without a converter

That didn't work for me. Mine moved so fast on 12 volts they threw the blades off!! I had the old "square" motor used in 356 As. The round motor might work differently. I built a converter using a zener diode that clipped the voltage at 6 v and worked OK. A few years later I put a '68 VW two speed, 12 volt motor in, mostly for the two speed feature.
