Fuel filter fittings (FFF?) 78 SC

I was changing the fuel filter on my 78 SC tonight and ran into a problem. The old filter is a Bosch 450 905 016. Came out fine but I noticed the new filter is a Bosch 450 905 079, looks alittle different and the fittings do not work. Specifically the brass fittings that screw in to the filter and then hook up to the fuel line via a compression fitting are each subtly diffent and while the bottom fitting screws into the new filter the top one won't. In addition while the "filter side of each fitting fits into the old filter the side that accepts the compression fitting must be put back they way they came as the compression nut s will not work otherwise. I am new to Porsches (had the car 2 months) is this normal or did a mechanic alter this at some point. Is there any harm in getting a fresh 450 905 016 and using it...or is it better to take the whole shebang to a autoparts shop and get fittings that fit the "correct" filter?

Also...any suggestions on where to focus on a severe miss that starts only when engine warms (20-25 minutes of 70mph), only under load and seems to be getting worse. I installed new plugs, dist cap and rotor and am doing the wires this weekend. Several have commented it may be my CD box (a permatune, by service records new 2 years ago. I have checked all ground wires and connections I can access.

the 016 is the correct filter. the 003 will also fit but it's shorter. both come with fittings in them. the 079 is not listed in the bosch catalog to fit any porsche.

I just went through this last month with my 80 SC. Seem there was three different filters used on 1980 SCs according to the PET CD, not sure about your model.
I finally just took the old filter off and carried it around until I found someone with the right part. On all the ones that people tried to sell me the threads were too small on one end.
