Optima Red Top - Another Convert
Well, I know I have sang the praises of Interstate in the past... And I still have no complaints with them...
However even vented I had a nasty acid spill. The vent tube somehow had not provided a proper seal and I ended up with acid and white powder in the battery area. I sprayed with a neutralizer and spray that turns acid from yellow to pink. Cleaned it properly. Think I got it all... Bought a Red Top 34R. Fits perfect. $180 with exchange at Autozone (not cheap). Used the cuting board template last posted by Ed Hughes and about 30 minutes later im done. Have a 1.5 tender/maintainer hard installed so I can keep it at 100% between drives. So far so good. Cant take a chance with a 27 year old car and battery acid. Just an FYI for anyone considering.. the install was very simple... |
Not to rain on your parade, but bve sure not to let it drain totally. They are a PIA to recharge. Mine has been drained several times over the Winter and your standard charge process does not work. From an acid spill perspective, it is definitely your best choice!
