air filter

I know this must sound strange, but I can't determine the method to do up the bottom back clip on the air box..... is there some big secret? Both my Bentleys and my 101 projects say nothing but unclip, remove old filter, wipe out box and clip new filter into place. Maybe the solution is obvious ....but not to me!

I assume your talking about the 3.2? You need small flexible arms, forget it if your over 40 I don't know what to say, I took out my AC which makes it easy, took it out as in removed for ever not just to latch the box.

Wedge hand into back of box. Ignore pain. Fumble with latch. Guess that it is latched. Hope the other 3 hold well.

small arms work best, but like Kidasters said, IGNORE PAIN and HOPE its done

Once I cut the top off my airbox I had ample room to reach back there and clip them all, fwiw.

I use zip ties as an extension since I have the dreaded fat hand syndrome that spread to my entire body.

call contorsionist, close latch, finished.

I cut of most of the airbox lid so that I have a RS Cup style lid (just an edge of plastic left), which makes for easier acces

Can those of you who cut your lids, post pics? Curious to see what you did.

Thanks

I actually, greased up my forearm, ignored pain and just jammed it in there as far as I could. Uncomfortable for a few minutes, but I always seem to get it latch........

Lol, too funny. I have thin arms and it was a challenge.

Take care.

Remove the rear seats and insulation and then get a plasma cutter and remove the rear firewall. From this point access is easy. Am I the only one who has figured this out???

Come in from under the box if you can to get the rear lower one. If I recall, it was the more difficult to get to. The last time I did it the oil was hot, and the oil lines did a number on my arm, so maybe don't do that.

It's easier if you have the AC compressor out of the way, or go around the back from the left side.

its a pain but definitely take the ac line out.. then you can atleast slide your hand in there. i did mine two weeks ago and i still don't have feeling in the tip of that finger. i was almost thinking of getting an aftermarket aircleaner so i don't have to deal with it.

Just did this yesterday...... Fasten the first three to ensure the box is aligned and then work the forth by feel.

+1 on that! Mine has small hands and skinny arms and can reach in and snap it closed like nothing and then give me that "what was so hard about that" look.

Just did mine today. I just figured that 3 out of 4 is good enough.

Here's the only problem I see with having your wife do the clip for you. In order to unclip it and get the filter out again, you're depending on her again. She's got you by the ba**s now and she knows it. You're going to have to spend an afternoon rearranging the living room furniture (7 different ways) for her before she'll unclip it. Next time, just use the 3/4 method.
