driving schools ??
I am thinking of doing a 3 or 4 day course with 4 friends and have looked into a few schools.
I was wondering other than the porsche club events if anyone has any feedback on the schools, experience; both good and bad. Any help is appreciated. thanks, mike |

Just go with your friendly neighborhood PCA driving schools. Depending where you are in the country, PCA regional chapters often run track days where you get about 2 hours of actual driving each day the track is rented by the club. The costs is about $450 for 2 day-3day events in NJ. Check out PCA website and local region and call the track chairman/person of the nearest region. So actual track time is about $100/hr. The other advantage is you have to bring your own car and would get a feel for the limits in a car you drive frequently.
Good schools are Porsche driving schools but pricey ($3500 for 2 days). |

Did 2 different Jim Russell schools and both were great but I was leaning towards getting my own formula car

Probably not what you're thinking of but the Evolution autocross schools are a blast and a great way to learn handling limits at safe speeds.

I did Skip Barber at Lime Rock Park and Laguna Seca. It was worth the money. I now drive with the Poughkeepsie Sports Car Club, a local branch of the SCCA.
I would reccomend Skip Barber because you just show up and they put you in the program from the bottom up. You drive their cars, and it is a very metered program. I think learning to drive your 911 wih the PCA is a great idea, but if you are tentative about feeling ready to do that, driving school will prime your pump. |

I am a big fan of autocross. A very safe environment for going fast and using your car. I will definitely be doing an EVO school when I can schedule one.
