To Paint the Wheels or Not to Paint?
Hello Everyone,
Last week I posted a picture of my new baby on the thread, but this week I am looking for some advice. I am thinking about painting my Fuch's all black which seems to be more of the original wheel that was on this car in 1985, but the guy I bought it from said that the wheels that are on it are actually the originals. Can anyone tell me if indeed these wheels could have been original? Can anyone give me suggestions for painting them or having them painted? Thanks

They appear to be 16x6 front, 16x7 rear and that size was original.
Painting them is simple and can be done at home with the right tools/area.Pelican Parts Technical BBS - Search Results Or you can send them out to Harvey Weidman and let him do it. Obviously, this method is much more expensive than doing it yourself. IMO-black petals would look great on your car.

they were probably all satin black with a polished lip...I don't think they were originally red, but I could be wrong.

Would not have been factory standard. They didn't do polished petals by the time they got to the SC ('78).
But, I've heard of some interesting things from the "Special Wishes" program, so... Is the red on the car original? Is it a standard color or "special" (paint code?)? I'm not familiar with that particular red. |

no, it did not come from the factory that way.
the wheels are almost certainly original, but the paint scheme was done after the car was in the us. assuming it's a us model car, the sidemarkers on the fenders also aren't original, and the headlights aren't either. Last edited by McLovin; 03-27-2010 at 10:10 PM.. |

If you like the shiny polished look, don't paint them. Otherwise, you won't go wrong with satin black. Or you could take the approach I have. My Tobacco Brown car has polished petals, which I do not like. So I just don't wash them, and now from as close as anyone would want to get to the car they kind of look like satin silver.
Eventually, I'll paint mine satin black, but for now inertia rules. Tim

there are tons of threads on this subject, all readily available with a search.
Satin black (with or without polished petals) is a good, classic look. All polished looks great too, but many believe it to be too "bling"...almost chrome in appearance. There is also the ever-popular "RS" look---no polish, just very finely brushed in appearance with a black or light-colored background. Looks fantastic, and almost zero maintenance.
