Question Rebuilding 911 Calipers

Well, my car has been pulling when I would brake, so today I thought I would pull the pads and see whats up. When I got the pads off I see the seals are jacked up pretty bad (thats where that brake fluid went). I pulled the caliper off already and started to clean it up. Is there any other way then acompressor to get the pistons out? Anything special I need to whatch for? I read the tech article and it seems pretty easy to do. I have the aluminun calipers, does that make any difference? TIA...

caliper rebuild

be careful when using compressed air to remove the caliper pistons as they can become projectiles. just use air slowly. I had my fingers in the wrong place and got hit by the piston on it's way out.

Tom,

If you are very careful. take one pad out at a time, and pump the pedal slowly ... until the pistons contacts the rotor. Put a folded shop towel under each 'bare' piston after you take the pad out, and don't put much pedal pressure on the system while trying this extraction method. An assistant would help, so you can 'watch' the pistons! Then remove the calipers, and the pistons will be mostly ready to come out for cleaning.

Will I be able to get the rebuild parts from the dealer? I would love to give the sale to pp, but I need to get the car back on the road since I sold my truck and now use the 911 for my daily driver.

Tom,

Yes, I have used and recommended Metal Masters for over 20 years with no complaints ... on VWs, BMWs Mercedes, and my 911!

I used the Porsche Air compressor that comes with all Porsche cars (lol). There's neat little plastic adaptor the fits right into the brake line at the caliper. A few seconds and "pop" out comes the piston... Be sure to use a small piece of wood between the pistons, and keep your fingers out of the way!

Warren's way for stuck pistons and Tom's way when pistons are not stuck.

Here is another technic for getting stuck pistons out:

I used an extra section of break line obtained from a local auto supply.

Here is a link to my brake rebuilding experience.

i suggest you patent your bicycle pump design before it ends up in the "special tools section" of Performance Products catalog for $250.
