The car broke in THREE pieces!!! and he was ejected from the vehicle. I wouldn't call that tough. His injuries include
" both femurs, right hip, left fibula, left foot, left radius, left ulna and multiple metacarpal fractures. Other injuries included damaged tendons, nerves and muscle. " ------------------ Bill Krause '79 911SC Euro |

Built Ferrari tough?
Have you seen the Ferrari accident photos that have been circulating the Net lately? 2 dudes ejected, the most definately did not survive, as shown clearly in the photos. I'd post the link, but its too gruesome, I'm sure some would find it objectionable. I've never seen anything quite like it. |

I doubt any road car would do well in a 120MPH impact like this. That guy was very, very lucky.

Actually, I was very suprised that in my accident there wasn't more dammage to me or the car.
It almost appeared that there were 'crumple' zones in the sheet metal for absorbing the shock of a collision. I collided with a SOLID wall and as far as I was concerned, the car took it fairly well ![]() I think that the spare tire saved alot of the car aswell, including the gas tank from rupturing and all that good stuff. Needless to say, there isn't anything left of that car and that dude is VERY lucky. Wonder how the hell he ran into a transport? Don't post them here, it's not worth it. There is only one picture of the car, or what's left of it, and the rest is of misc body parts (human). That sort of thing doesn't need to be passed around anymore than it already has.

Hello
Porsche are pretty tough. But not invincible. As far as these pictures help a reconstruction from the accident I would say he hit the truck slightly with the driverside tearing off the sheetmetall and causing to spin the car with the frontend inside to the truck while the car end was starting to spin off. The trucks rear axle must have run over his frontend causing the engine to hammerhead the car and riping the frontend off. The car looks shattered but it was the best way to loose energy by throwing the heavy engine out. I think the steelconstruction did also some parts on that shreding Whenever you get into such a situation. Use your brakes and decide to use your full crash zone by an optimal frontal hit or go offroad. This desicion is to make in the situation but avoid hiting a 18 wheeler, Military truck or a High Boy. They will run over your crumple zone and also will load ther energy into your car. If you hit a tree or a wall you only have to brake your own energy. The Porsche advantage is the long crumble zone, even the disantvantage that is the heavy engine in the rear will still push forward is a advantage for you as it will lower the high G peaks but prolong the accident some milisecounds. Keep your eyes and mind open and look if you canīt see a other opportunity. Donīt get hypnotic and look at one point like you would aim something. Kill the engine by loosing the clutchpedal, not to soon. If not donīt worry doesnīt change much. Keep in mind that the left foot is the one that can get catched beetween pedal and incoming footweel. The Porsche footwork will swivel away as that zone will get bend at the accident moving the pedals against the woodbord to avoid catched feet. But heavy intrusion will crumble that saefty zone away. Allways have a seatposition where you have not the possibility to stretch your knees and arms to a full straight as your bones will get shattered then. The best is to pull the feet away before you hit something. Put your thumps out off the spokes and try not to grip the wheel. If you smoke then spit out the pipe or cigarette. Allways buckle up and pull the loose sling upwards to roll it up. Keep your belt maintained and replace it if any signs of wear show up. Donīt use other than black seatbelts as colored belts are not similar elastic. If you have non stock seats make sure you have a approved seatwith a solid understructur. The seat and the belt is your only protection so engage the best bodygards. There is a link at the bottom of the picture that will tell the whole story. In addition, the following site has that story, and a bunch of other stories of crash survivors...
http://www.car-accidents.com/ I saw the Ferarri crash pics...pretty sick. I also saw one the other day of a guy on a motorcycle that ran into the back of a truck. Possibly the worst thing I have ever seen... Bill ------------------ William Armentrout 1973 911T 2.7 carerra rs specs www.geocities.com/william_armentrout |
