Slide project finished!

I have been developing these slides for a while for a local shop that builds race cars. They are fully 5-axis machined and I am really happy with how they turned out. Next in line are 5-axis billet throttle bodies in aluminum and magnesium. I'll post some pictures when I get them done.

Oh my God. Engineering art work. Mind blowing and beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Cool! Did these come from Rothsport? If so, I saw them two weeks ago. Jeff and I talked about them. Very nice. I have been thinking about them ever since.

Yep, these are Jeff's latest project. They are off to the east coast for delivery and there are several new sets on the way. 2-bolt versions and water cooled versions. It is going to keep me busy for a while.

Beautiful work - are they rack and pinion actuated (looking at the linkage) ??

I don't want to go into specifics but they are completely sealed from the outside air to prevent dust contamination and sticking, and the design of the bearing mechanisms were done to prevent sticking. They are also very easy to remove, clean, and service. These were all top priorities during the design phase. The intakes on this particular set are also ported to match the head port shape, which is not round.

I should also add that flow bench testing with the slide valves and butterfly valves was done to facilitate the linkage design since the flow is vastly different between the two at part throttle. These are very driveable even at part throttle as a result.

These will also handle the pressure of a turbo application :-)

Fair enough - it was just an observation at first glance
They look great

I gotta ask - what is this going on? These are too cool!

Bullet Bob 03-30-2010 06:44 AM

These are going on a 993 based race car located somewhere in the northeast. That is all I know.

Nothing quite like the look of custom shaped alloy. Beautiful.

Fantastic work. Thanks for sharing.

Those could go on a shelf as easily as in a car.

Bob,

I was at Jeff's shop on Thursday and had an opportunity to pick them up and marvel at the machining involved, you sir are an artist. I wish I had the $$$$ to pony up because they are incredible. Should be interesting to see how the numbers turn out on the dyno running these beauties.

Sure wish I had the talent and knowledge to build stuff like that. It must be quite an experience to sit back and look at those after all the work that has gone into their creation. Totally awesome.
