Numbers-matching

A buddy of mine has a 1967 911 that he is selling. He was told that it is a numbers-matching car, but he isn't sure how to figure that out. The car is 4 hours away from me, so I can't look at it myself. Any help?

You need to contact PCNA. Sometimes they can provide info via phone/fax, i.e. if you give them the VIN they can tell you the original engine number that came with the car, and any other details that are on-file. You may need/want to order the "Kardex" Certificate of Authenticity for the car but it costs $35 IIRC and takes quite a while to arrive, like 6 weeks or so.

Good luck,

Efrain, if you post the VIN & engine numbers we can let you know if the engine is in the correct range of serial numbers for the VIN but we won't be able to confirm that it is the original engine.

I believe that a Porsche dealer can supply the original build spec (with the engine and transmission numbers) from the chassis number

If you just want to check number ranges & other basic info, the factory page is here:

Are matching numbers important for concourse? It wouldn't seem to matter otherwise ... unless the cops are looking for 'particular' numbers.;)

I do suppose one might want a proper series of numbers on a car's components to be assured the originally engineered parts are installed. Yes?
