"Carrera" decals and washing your car
A question about the "Carrera" script decals that many have on their cars. I'm talking aftermarket ones as sold by members on Pelican.
Are the adhesives and materials in these decals sturdy enough to take washing without being damaged? Or must you clearcoat over them before you do that? Thanks, d. |

I got my red Carrera script from Mike Z a year ago. They've held up to 22 days of track use, constant washing, sitting on my open trailer at 80 mph towing in the rain to tracks 1,000 miles away. And washing track debris and rubber streaks (kicked up pieces, not rubbing) off the side takes a lot more scrubbing than a street car. Can't speak to the other suppliers but I'm happy with Mike's stuff.

You should not clearcoat over them. They will withstand washing no problem.

I agree with what has been said above, but do be careful on the extreme thin tips of the pointy sections, they tend to grab the drying towel and when it's warm enough out deflect slightly giving a crooked look.

I wish I could say I was in front of him for the entire 30 min, but it's a well set up R8 driven by friend and pro driver Mark White, who's shop Accumoto in WI had set up the car's suspension, exhaust, software and brakes. I could keep him behind me in the turns, but all that V8 thrust got me on the main straight. We'll see if that still holds true once I get the 3.6 done.
