Frequency of oil change/valve adjust?

Hello everyone. Well I am going to take the week off I have over Christmas and start fiddling with my engine. First is to figure out why my car is puffing black smoke. (O2/head temp sensor) Then I will change oil and adjust the valves. Question is, how often does everyone change oil/adjust valves? It's been about 3500 miles since last adjust/oil change but they sure are noisy already.

Thanks,
Michael

Valves noisy at 3500 mi?

I'd suggest something (wrong) is going on with your motor if a valve adjustment only lasts that long. Also, your guides may be worn, and that is contributing to the noise you're hearing. Either way, you need to check out why this is happening.

Follow the Porsche service manual if you drive it like a car.

If you drive it like a Porsche do both a bit more often.

If you race it, or drive like you're racing it, do both before and after each strenuous 'event' - or at least check before and do both after.

Cheers
