What makes it "R Gruppe"??

Hello,

I ask what exactly an "R Gruppe" car is becasue I have a 66 911 that I was going to part out and junk but I have had a change of heart and have decided to fix the rust and try to make roadworthy by lets say 2010!! Also as I a side note I was reading my GT Racing catalog and read that you could shorten the wheel base of a 72 T to 911R specs so I was wondering if I could the reverse with my 66 by getting post 68 banana arms ( I think that is what the rear suspension arms are named)?

Thanks,
Ron

If you lengthen the wheelbase, you would need new rear fenders & rocker panels (ouch$!). Porsche lengthened the wheelbase to improve the weight balance & handling, but the older cars can still corner pretty well if they are set up well (my brother's corner balanced '67S does pretty damn well throught the corners).

I wouldn't change the exterior of the car, except for some nice, period tweeks (like 911R rear windows, etc.) The short wheelbase 911's have a sweet, classic look that should stay as is, especially since there are so few of them. I'd put money into Webers & sport exhaust first.

Let us know what you choose to do-

My vote is to keep it stock. The early SWB cars have really started to grow on me. I have a hunch that these cars are going to make a comeback.

I also have a "hugh jardon" for the 911R. If I had the money, I'd be building a 67 911R replica right now.

I think lengthening the wheelbase would be a money losing proposition, given the fact that you can pick up a 69-73 T fairly cheaply. The early-early cars are just so 60's quaint. They're cool that way. All those 356 throwback features and all.

Nuttin' but "Attitude"..........

RGruppe is not about looks, It's ALL about Attitude. Freeman says it's the "hotrod" mentality. Cris might suggest it's about what your own individual preception is of Porsche. If you like it, and it's your own "mantra", then it's RGruppe material. No ego's allowed. Come and "smoke and joke" with the guys and concourse menality allowed. Bra's and car covers are banned. Cars should be street worthy.................yada,yada,yada...
