DOT / EPA docs

I'm planning to swap 3.0 engine into my 1973. I saw a couple of euro engines. Is it require to have DOT/EPA docs in the case of swapping engine, not buying car itself?

Thanks for your help

Gohan,

I would not worry about the docs for the engine. The only modifications these engines had when they were imported to the US was primarily smog equipment ( air pumps, cat, etc). The main concern was the structure of the vehicle and their ability to handle a collision. Also, the lighting system (headlights, reflectors, etc) were changed to US standards. When I got my 911 (imported euro) I changed it back to the original euro look because I thought it looked better and plus that’s how the vehicle was originally made...But since you car is a 73, This requirement is exempt (Dot, EPA, etc) for cars over 25 years (US) or for Canada cars 15 years. So go ahead and buy that euro engine, and the best part of all, they have more horsepower then their US brothers. I hope this helps..

Good luck,

Pat:p

Gohan, what Pat suggests is true for California, and might be true for New Jersey as well. But you should check -- preferably with someone who's done the same thing, in New Jersey -- to make sure it'll be kosher. My (1993 3.6) engine is Euro, which means it's exactly the same as the US version, but I still had to do some special tricks to import it into the U.S. Those stickers can be very important, in some situations.
