Early 911 Sport seat options...not for purists

We early fans have watched in astonishment at the meteoric rise in the prices for core and refinished early Recaro sport seats. In a seperate thread I learned a lot about some Recaro sport seats made for another manufacturer (BMW) that share very similar qualities to the Recaro sport seats. The early sport seats were well designed and manufactered as well as being very comfortable. In the other thread I learned about two Recaro seats e-21 and e-30. The one most similar the the Sport S seat manufactured as an option for the early (pre-73) Porsche 911s...to me is the e-30 as the side bolsters rise vertically to the seat top, vs being joined below the headrest horizontally on the e-21. One nice thing about the e-30 vs the Sport Recaro is that the e-30 is just a slight bit taller. No intent is being made here to disbarage the suppliers/advertisers aftermarket seats available as an option to a factory set of sport seats. I have "repro" sets of early seats and they are well made, safe and very comfortable. This experiment is to show the before and after of a restoration of e-30 seats. While there were willing sellers of e-30 seats all over the country, a search on CL found a couple local sets. The amazing (to me) similarities are the bolsters, tilting machanisms and headrests. The difference in the treatment of the seat bottom behind the knees is worthy of note. The factory sport seat has a built up cushion that extends above the side bolsters at the seat front. The e-30 has an adjustable "floating" cushion in this same place. The same quality and workmanship...from the same manufacturer, just supplied to different german car manufacturers. I have a local upholsterer (old school) who will be doing the work for me...hey, I'm smarter than to try to do this myself.
I picked up the first set of seats yesterday...pretty rough.

I will drop them off today and pick them up in a week. They will be completely different when I pick them up...hint...traditional recover, nothing gaudy. The color will be changed and well...you will see soon enough. I will post the "after" pics to see what people think.

Looks like a nice project. I look forward to the results. How heavy are those seats by the way?

Funny you should ask...I should have mentioned that

The e-30s feel like about 35-40 lbs apiece. There may be some weight saving over the early sport seats...maybe someone wants to..."weigh-in" here if they know how heavy the sport seats are. I have to believe a lot of the weight is in the slider/tilt apparatus

I still have a old set that are similar. I went a different route with my 73, but I may still try and fit them into my 71.

Picked up some old seats for my longhood

seats

I have a a set of these in almost excellent condition which came out of my 70 911.I now have a new interior purchased so I am just wondering how much a set of these are worth for resale.

Lars, you're going to write a check??? come one, this is an easy DIY for you! There must be plenty of deer around your house that would look good wrapped around a car seat...

They wouldn't take parts in trade, but that doesn't mean Lars didn't try!

Lars, which car are these for, the one with the twin plug 3.0 or the one with the 2.2S motor?

You guys are funny....

Some things are done without thinking... intentionally. Somethings are intentionally not done after giving some thought. And some things shouldn't be done...period. Seriously... I have researched this....and this is why I am going to write a check

How to redo your seat's upholstery

Although I did offer the upholstery guy some fresh venison in trade...vegan
