new here and need help
Hello all,

More info might help a bit. Was it "running when stored"? You might start by seeing if the engine will turn by hand. Remove the plugs, squirt some marvel mystery oil or similar in the cylinders, let it sit for a bit and then see if it will turn. The fuel system will be a mess , disassemble, clean, reassemble. Others will know more and hopefully respond. I know there are some good threads on here for resurrecting a long sleeping motor but I couldn't find them after searching for a little while. I searched on sitting, storage, resurrecting. People will tell you to search but the problem is hitting the right term to bring up the threads you want. What's an Aztec 7? You say 911S motor, what year?

Wow, the A/C compressor is on there.
If she turns, you've got a very neat project ahead of you. Prepare to get rid of the old fuel & filter of course. What condition is the tank in? Check and replace vac lines. replace cracked brittle ignition lines. Keep using this board - you'll get a ton of help. We (I) would like to see more pics. |

The car is a Fiberfab Aztec 7. The motor was taken from an insurance totaled 911. The engine boss that has the numbers on it was broken off so I don't know what year it is. I have gone through the fuel system. The car will start and idle but will die when I try to get some revs up. It has the a/c and guages from the 911. It is cool but not really my thing but now my 19 y.o. has shown some interest in it so I want to get it running and finish it. I appreciate all your help. Very hard to tell much from your picture of the engine, but I do see the MFI stacks which gives a clue that the engine is a pre-73.5 (assuming the MFI is original to the engine.) The shroud would be red if the engine is an S, but that could have been changed. You say the boss with the serial # is missing? Look on the horizontal surface, just to the right of the fan support that held the serial # and see if you can find the engine type #--should look something like 911/XX.
The AC compressor may be in the way, but it would be worth your while to find it. Post more pictures of the engine from as many different angles as possible, and someone will chime in with more information. Looks like an interesting project, and if you have a real, early 911S engine in there, you definitely have something worth saving. |
