1988 911 Turbo trouble
I own a 1988 911 930 Turbo. I have been havign some problems with ignition. Car does well from a cold start, but has issues with either sitting in sun or after driving. If sitting after running or in sun, then will start hard and almost back fire. If turn off and start again will be fine. ALso, if driving for longer period car will do same almost like turned key off--back fires loss of power. If pull over and turn off and restart starts right away and runs fine. I wondered if this could be a problem with the distributor vacuum or the vacuum parts stemming from it. How can I diagnos and repair this problem. The owners manuel shows the vac lines from distributor go to the solenoid valve ( i assume this is the change over valve which there are two on my car) and the other vac line runs to the what is called in my book the "temperature switch" could this temperature switch be the issue--if so where is it located on car and how can I get the proper part to repair. Please help I am a young and new owner of this car--hate to take it to the shop as enjoy workign on it myself. Thanks

Could be the fuel accumulator not holding pressure when it's hot. You might find a shop manual online on CD for not too much money (they're several hundred dollars in book form.)
With the manual and a set of CIS gauges, you can trouble shoot most fuel problems.

may be the relay for the O2 sensor computer going in and out. in the engine area, left side, under the plastic cover. standard round black relay. swap it for one on the front relay board and see if that helps.
